All or almost all of us know or have an idea as to what asthma is. In the general concept asthma is a condition where the afflicted have difficulty in breathing. While this may be true, this is also wrong as the difficulty in breathing experienced by asthmatics lie more in the description and not on the definition. Asthma is defined as a chronic breathing related illness which is characterized by the body’s adverse reaction to allergens or triggers present. It involves the classic wheezing, tightening of the chest and difficulty in breathing due to inflammation of the bronchial tubes, over development of mucus, and constriction of the muscles in the airways.

Make no mistake, even with its seemingly feline description asthma has become one of the world’s deadliest illnesses over the centuries. To add to that, the symptoms that asthma have is sometimes to vague and misleading, adults tend to mistake them for something else and allowing the condition to worsen. Here are 5 of the most ignored adult asthma symptoms

Coughing that worsens at night: Don’t grab your cough medication just yet because you might actually be just helping to worsen the case. If you experience coughing that just comes and goes for no particular reason, which tends to worsen at night or during cold days, then it would be a better idea to have it checked.

Sleep apnea: sleep apnea is a chronic illness that is characterized by pauses or shallow breathing during sleep. This might be because of narrowing bronchial passages making air difficult to move in and out freely. It is almost obvious as to why most adults would miss this symptom; most people would tend to ignore this in exchange for a more basic need which is to SLEEP.
