Asthma is a very difficult condition to determine because the symptoms that it can present are sometimes very plain or “generalized” that parents, guardians, or sometimes even doctors mistake the condition for something totally different. Early detection and treatment is essential for asthma as leaving the condition to worsen can bring dangerous or maybe even fatal consequences.
If you’d like to know more about the misleading and sometimes vague symptoms related to asthma it would be best to look for more information in your local library or check the internet. For now, here are some of the symptoms that asthma can present itself in for children:
Tight feeling in the chest: parents or guardians sometimes can be misled into believing otherwise when children start to complain about feeling tightness in the chest because it is somewhat difficult to explain, especially for younger kids. The tightness in the chest might start out as mild and manageable but without early medical intervention it can worsen and cause full blown attacks.
Coughing: To be more accurate, dry unproductive cough (no mucus, just mostly irritation, and feeling of itchiness) which tends to worsen during the night or during particularly cold days are also one of the signs of asthma. If you observe this symptom in your child, have them examined as it may already be something other than ordinary cough.
Agitation: Agitation in children can be caused by many different reasons, and one of those reasons may be asthma. The feeling of agitation in children might be caused by the body’s lack of oxygenation giving children a sense of irritation because they feel that something is wrong yet lack the words to explain it clearly and precisely. If a child is often agitated and irritated for no particular reason, it would be best to get medical advice as they may already be experiencing early symptoms of asthma.
Lack of energy: Lack of oxygen can deprive your child the energy to play, mingle with other kids, or in a sense be a kid. This is often characterized by the child’s eagerness and hesitation when it comes to joining activities. If you happen to observe this behavior in your child, have them checked so that early diagnosis and treatment can be made if needed.
Observing any one of these asthma symptoms in your child is not really a determinant that he/she may have asthma, and just the same, asthma can be present without first showing any of the symptoms. That is why it is important that you take note of the signs that your just might be showing you. The earlier it is diagnosed the better your child’s chances are of reversing the condition and eliminating it for good.
