What are the side effects of an Asthma Inhaler?

Asthma is an acute lung disorder where the brochi gets inflated, & thus restricting the passage of air resulting is uneasiness in breathing. There is no permanent cure available for the ailment for the preventive medicine most commonly used is an asthma inhaler.

It is a machine which contains aero soled medicine. This medicine flushes through the lungs, under high pressure & reliving the patient of this disorder. This machine contains medicine in much lesser amount as compared to a pill & thus is recommended.

The most commonly used medicine in asthma inhalers is steroid. Steroids result in rapid depression of the inflamed lung brochi. Although much effective, there are various side effects of asthma drugs.

Asthma inhalers containing steroids are said to cause rapid psychiatric disorder such as depression, aggression, change of mood & insomnia. In certain cases this gives rise to steroid psychosis.

People who suffer from such psychosis are said to experience insanity, craziness & the patient tends to loose control from the reality. Rapid hallucination, irritation & delusions are the common symptoms of such ailment. All the above symptoms have been approved by the FDA. The symptoms begin by patients feeling “hyped up”, anxiety, depression & increased blood pressure. Memory problems & mental illness are yet another set of indications for steroid psychosis.

Extended usage of asthma inhalers containing steroids can cause delusions of grandeur. The patient thinks himself to be of utmost importance. They can also suffer from paranoid delusion resulting in a feeling in the patient of getting prosecuted. They may also become a victim of visual & auditory illusions. The patients may start seeing something that is not present & may even hear voices out of silent backgrounds.

The steroids used in asthma inhalers are called “corticosteroids”. These should not be misunderstood to be the steroids used by athletes & body builders, which are called “anabolic steroids”.
